Alabama League of Municipalities Elects New President and Vice President During Annual Convention

MONTGOMERY, AL – The Alabama League of Municipalities (ALM) on Thursday elected Rusty Jessup, mayor of Riverside, as its new president and Jason Reeves, mayor of Troy, as its new vice president during the business session of the League’s annual convention at the Montgomery Performing Arts Centre. Over 1,200 municipal officials, strategic partners and exhibitors attended this three-day convention to discuss legislative issues, hear from state leaders, share resources and conduct official business.

Alabama Municipalities Recognize U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Sen. Katie Britt as Hometown Heroes

WASHINGTON – Today, the Alabama League of Municipalities recognized U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville and Sen. Katie Britt as recipients of the 2026 Hometown Hero Award during a breakfast panel and meeting at the National League of Cities’ Congressional City Conference. The League presents the Hometown Hero Award each year to leaders who demonstrate a steady commitment to strengthening communities and improving the quality of life for local residents.

City of Saraland Designated as Second Healthy Alabama Community in State

MONTGOMERY, AL– The city of Saraland was awarded the 2025 Healthy Alabama Community designation at the Alabama League of Municipalities’ annual Graduation and Awards Ceremonies at the Renaissance Hotel on October 30. This marks only the second time the award has been given in state history. The Healthy Alabama Communities program was developed in 2022 in partnership with Alabama Communities of Excellence, the Alabama Department of Public Health, the Alabama Hospital Association and Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Alabama to support communities and community leaders in identifying and implementing policy, system and environmental changes to improve the health of all community members.

HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Alabama League of Municipalities (ALM) on Thursday elected Sherry Sullivan, mayor of Fairhope, as its new president and Rusty Jessup, mayor of Riverside, as its new vice president during the business session of the League’s 90th convention at the Von Braun Center. Over 800 municipal officials from around the state attended this three-day convention to discuss legislative issues, hear from state leaders, share resources and conduct official business.

Alabama Municipal Officials Celebrate 30th Anniversary of Nation’s Second Oldest Training Program

This week, the Alabama League of Municipalities is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the Certified Municipal Official (CMO) program. In 1994, the League launched its voluntary CMO program under the leadership of its former executive director, Perry Roquemore Jr., making it the second oldest elected municipal official training program in the country.

Birmingham Councilmember Elected to National League of Cities Board of Directors
